Lessons from Babysitting

For this week my family and I are babysitting my niece and nephew. Well, last night, when we put them to bed, my three year old nephew really started to miss his mommy. In fact, after I left the room, he started to cry saying that he missed mommy. I really felt bad for him since I remember times when I was younger and I felt the same way. So, I tried to calm him down and do the best I could to comfort him.

After I calmed him down, I left the room and suddenly it hit me: the way I felt towards my nephew is the same way Jesus feels toward us when we go through times of trials and temptations. Hebrews 4:14-16 says," Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathise with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need." I could sympathize with what my nephew felt because I remember times that I went through where I felt the same way. Jesus when through every kind of temptation that we could go through. When we are tempted in any area, the Lord knows how we feel and He has compassion on us. Verse sixteen of Hebrews chapter four says that we should boldly unto the throne of grace to obtain mercy and grace in out times of need. Jesus wants us to come to Him because He is the only one who can give us the strength to go through and overcome the temptations. He has promised his help if we will just come to Him. We forget how great and powerful God really is and as a result, we forget how much He can help us. God is an all-powerful God. He is able to help us in all areas.
